Dawn + Gerard, Whytecliff Park Engagement (+ Surprise Proposal!)
I've shared quite a few things already about the incredible love story of Dawn and Gerard, and yet I feel like I've only covered 1/4 of it. Luckily, I get to share more about them here tonight! Now get ready to have your faith in true love restored, the hopeless romantic in you to come out and your ugly tears to start flowing.
D+G's story first started when they met during a backpack trip in Europe. Gerard is from the Netherlands and Dawn, from Seattle, was on a yearlong trip (basically) around the world. They knew from the start that they had found someone special, but was afraid that the distance would be an issue (which is a completely normal thought). Well, they couldn't and didn't let that get in the way and so their journey of literally chasing each other around the world began. Ahhh they sound like they're straight out of a movie eh? Believe it or not, it gets better.
After keeping that up for a couple of years, Dawn decided it was time that they be in one place, together, as husband and wife. So, in her words, her 'feminist flag flew so high' and asked Gerard if he will marry her (this part is important later on). The planning process started, they contacted me to photograph their elopement in Vancouver in June and I was the third person that knew I had found something special. Since they were only in town for 3 days, we fit in their engagement session the day before they were getting married, and it had to be one of the most beautiful sessions I have ever experienced.
THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION + PROPOSAL:
The week before they were coming to Vancouver, I receive an email from Gerard informing me that he had a little surprise planned for Dawn: he was going to officially propose to her during the engagement session, AND that she would have no idea that her ring was going to be ready in time because G 'lied' saying it wouldn't be. Fast forward, the day is here for their session, which also happened to be the first time I'm meeting them in person (all the magic happening that evening). Gerard's plan was to give her a photo book he made, filled with photos of them throughout their relationship, and a few pages near the end with text describing what was going to happen next aka the proposal. To say she was surprised is an understatement, and I think that's all I need to say about it. Keep scrolling to see how it all went down!
